Scientific Proof That Shopping Makes You Happy!

Here at findSimilar, our world pretty much revolves about searching and buying clothes, and we are a pretty happy bunch here in the offices! And now we know why  - Shopping has been SCIENTIFICALLY proven to make you happy! Ok, we already knew that, but now it's Scientific!

They don't call it Retail Therapy for nothing! Not only has purchasing been proven to make you happy, but those who actually bought something, compared to those who just browsed, have been found to be feeling 40 times more in control. Now if there was ever an excuse to add ASOS to your favourites bar (What? It's not already there?!) then this is it!

Visiting a physical store has also been proved to make people three times happier, and has few negative side effects according to researchers at the University of Michigan, however spending cash that you don't have will of course leave you feeling rubbish, even if you do have a fabulous new handbag to show for it!

The study also showed that those who went into a shop in a bad mood were more likely to make an impulse buy, saying that they bought something to cheer themselves up.

The study in the Journal of Marketing and Psychology concluded that for retailers to benefit from this trend, they should provide slogans to appeal to customers and encourage them to splurge; think of the Selfridges "I didn't find it - it found me!' slogans and the (incredible) Harvey Nichols Christmas 'Sorry I Spent it on Myself' advert - those retails are just too clever!

So next time you feel the need for a little pick me up, you know exactly what to do! And for some outfit inspiration, why not try out findSimilar within Trendabl?

Love Fashion & Tech? Introducing FashTech

If you love Fashion & Tech as much as we do, and want to find out about the latest innovations, upcoming apps, and technology that is going to revolutionise the fashion industry, then there is no where better than the FashTech events.
FashTech is a series of events that are free to attend, and their aim is to drive innovation within Fashion and Technology, based around a series of talks and informal networking to promote and discuss everything from Fashion mobile apps to wearable technology, to e-commerce sites to bloggers, and everything in-between.

They invite Fashion Tech startup companies, retail executives, investors and influencers, to share their stories, advice and opinions with an engaged community of entrepreneurial and forward-thinking leaders. At each event there is a panel discussion with leaders from the Fashion and Tech industries discussing relevant topics such as wearable tech and iBeacon, investments and funding, and the future of the fashion industry.

The first event was held at Google Campus, and the second was in the fabulous Net-a-Porter HQ. Net-a-Porter group used the event as the soft launch for their new Netbook app, lead by group mobile manager, Sarah Watson:

To find out more about the events, you can watch the promo video below, and visit their site www.fashtechLDN.com

The upcoming events are listed via meet up, where you can RSVP here:

And of course, findSimilar's founding company Cortexica is proud to sponsor all FashTech events!

The Pull & Bear AW14 Press Day

Today we headed over to the Pull & Bear press day to check out their AW14 collection. We found it tricky to imagine wearing jumpers and jackets as the sun glared down on us for the hottest day of the year so far, but the collection offered a wintery outdoor feel with an Urban twist.

The menswear range featured a smart approach to traditional outdoor fabrics, with the sporty spirit of the brand present in all the designs.

The women's accessories were more trend led and featured novelties n terms of textures and materials. Iridescent and printed fabrics were key, revealing a sophisticated yet fun attitude to the collection.

Perfect for the sunny day, we were treated to delicious mexican food from Kimchary, as well as scrummy juices from Square Root London. As if we hadn't been spoilt enough, there was even a cactus for each of us to take home, they now have pride of place in the office!

Wonder what results a cactus would bring up on findSimilar...

Hmm, not sure this trend will catch on!

The Best Dressed from the Met Gala 2014

The Met Gala is perhaps the single most important event in any fashionista's diary, with red carpet regulars such as Beyonce, Sarah Jessica Parker and Anna Wintour dazzling us with their frocks.

The annual ball, which formally kicks off the Metropolitan Museum of Art's yearly Costume Institute exhibit always provides us with plenty of fashion inspiration, and this year the theme of the evening was a tribute to Charles James, America's First Couturier - so we can expect to see lots of over-the-top opulent gowns.

So, who made our Best Dressed list?
Flying the flag for British Fashion, Suki Waterhouse looked like she had stepped staight out of a fairytale in this Burberry gown (top left) while the pink pastel princess theme was also seen on Taylor Swift. The singer's Oscar De La Renta gown featured intricate beading and a long train.
The Gossip Girls dazzled in shimmering gowns, with Leighton Meester wearing an embellished Emilio Pucci number, and Blake Lively looking like a goddess in a champagne shade Gucci gown.

Our personal best dressed for the evening however is Rosie Huntingdon Whitely, whose Balmain dress featured leather, gold, and leopard embellishments. The shorter hemline bucked the tradition for the fancy soiree, and the actress accessorised with Balmain heels and hoop earrings.

While we may not be able to afford a Balmain number ourselves quite just yet, we can use FindSimilar through Trendabl to see what similar options are available on the highstreet. Our software has picked up on the patterns and shows some equally fabulous findings:
